TEHRAN — Tests results indicate that the amount of electromagnetic waves maintains at a safe level in Tehran, the Tehran City Council’s safety and crisis management committee chairwoman has said.

Various kinds of higher-frequency radio waves and types of electromagnetic waves are used to transmit information whether via TV antennas, radio stations or mobile phone base stations. Studies revealed that electromagnetic radiation may be harmful to human health.

This has worried the public as many mobile phone stations and antennas are set up in the city. Although there is no consistent evidence that electromagnetic radiation increase the risk of cancer the concerns remain.

Given the circumstances, Masoumeh Abad noted, for the first time we have conducted a research examining the negative impacts of the radiation in the capital, the Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.

“The research took about for years aiming at measuring radiation density,” she added. “We have examined the miscarriages, stillbirths, and low birth weight among babies in 460 districts in Tehran.”

The test results show that electromagnetic waves exits at a safe level in Tehran, she stated.
